Clogged Sink – Easy fix method #1

The easy fix to a Clogged Sink

Some of you may happen to experience having some problems with clogged sink. Well, I myself cannot count how many times that my wife complains about the kitchen sink draining more than ten minutes. Well, clogged sink is perhaps not a dreadful problem. However, this is irritating and it is potential to cause more serious problem than you think if you leave it too long before you fix it. First, the water will be backing up for some time, potentially causing some disease. Secondly, leaving the dirty water stagnating will cause bad smell. And thirdly, the most serious one; your wife will complain all days!

Well, let’s try to be a good husband and do something to help our wife fixing the clogged sink. Indeed, there is something we can do to fix it. What we need is some simple tools, and simple materials. What you need to prepare is a plunge, or a piece or long wire, or a screwdriver. And what your wife needs to prepare is backing soda and vinegar, in case some of you are not too familiar with them.

First of all, take the screen out of the hole and pour the baking soda and the vinegar into the drain through the hole with a composition of 1:4, sequentially. This means that if you pour a cup of vinegar, then the baking soda you need is quarter a cup. If you ask why, let’s think that with this composition, the baking soda and vinegar are in the optimum condition to form a chemical reaction creating a mixture that can break the clog. To condition the chemical reaction, cover the sink hole with the lid and wait for about fifteen to twenty minutes.

After that, remove the lid, and try to reach the clog using the equipment that you have prepared before. For the clog that is not too deep, you can use a screwdriver or a plunge. If you are using a screwdriver, then you can use it to hit the clog when it is felt. If you are using a plunge, choose a plunge that is designed specifically for sink, not for the toilet, because the size will not fit. You can make vertical movements up and down, rapidly and repeatedly, to pump the water that is trapped in the pipe.

Sometimes, the clog is not too deep to be reached by a screwdriver or a plunge, and you will need a tool that can reach deeper inside the drain pipe. You can use a long wire. A kind of wire used for sink is available in the market, but this is not a must, as you can use any wire. However, as you want to remove and, if possible, break the clog, you need to choose a strong wire that is not easily bended or broken. Enter the wire into the hole as deep as you can reach, until you feel the clog hamper your movement. Then try to hit the clog to break it. Usually, it will be easy for you to break the clog after using the combination of baking soda and vinegar, so that the rest will not be a hard job to do.
